2025 Fantasy Outlook
Smith made some confounding errors last season, especially in the red zone where he threw a league-high four interceptions, but he also didn't get much help from his coaches or offensive line. The Seahawks ranked near the bottom of the league in run rate, pre-snap motion, play-action passes and snaps under center, continually putting the burden on Smith and his receivers. Smith's career high of 4,320 yards was built on volume (578 attempts, 4th in NFL), and while he's an accurate passer, his 78.7 on-target percentage (2nd) was inflated by an average target depth that fell to a three-year low of 7.2 yards, perhaps suppressed in part by a late-season quest to earn a salary bonus for completion percentage (6.6-yard aDOT in his last five games). He got the bonus (career-high 70.4 completion percentage) but missed the playoffs and finished with his most interceptions (15) since his rookie year. That's how it went. The Raiders traded for him in March and gave him the contract the Seahawks refused, reuniting Smith with coach Pete Carroll, his biggest champion. Smith won't get as many attempts in Las Vegas, as Chip Kelly's offense will run through rookie RB Ashton Jeanty, and there aren't many weapons in the passing game. Brock Bowers is arguably the best pass catcher among NFL tight ends, but Jakobi Meyers is underqualified as a No. 1 WR and won't have much help unless second-round pick Jack Bech develops quickly. The mediocre weapons and likelihood of decreased volume mean Smith probably won't match last season's QB14 finish, but he should stay relevant in two-QB leagues. Read Past Outlooks

Agrees to extension
The Raiders and Smith agreed to a two-year extension Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Upon getting dealt from Seattle to Las Vegas on March 7, Smith still had one year remaining on his existing contract, but the Raiders have made a new commitment to the quarterback, with Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reporting the deal is worth $85.5 million, with $66.5 million guaranteed. The 34-year-old thus can be expected to be a Raider beyond the 2025 campaign after averaging 249.5 yards per game and compiling a 71:35 TD:INT over 49 starts the previous three seasons.

Skepticism of Smith’s QB5 finish in 2022 proved correct last season as he slumped to QB19. Smith missed two games, but even prorating his numbers to 17 games would jump him only to QB15, just behind Sam Howell, for whom the Seahawks traded in March to back up Smith. Smith’s accuracy took a big step back last season. His on-target rate dropped by four percentage points, moving from fourth in the league to 21st, while his completion percentage dropped by five points, from the league leader to 18th, just behind Mac Jones. Oddly, the drop was mostly because of inaccuracy on short passes. Smith increased his rate of attempts at or behind the line of scrimmage (16.4 to 20.2 percent) but his on-target percentage sank from 80.5 (12th) to 69.8, last in the league. Smith was still an effective downfield passer -- as in 2022, he was on target with 60.0 percent of his attempts of 20-plus yards -- but his TDs on deep throws dropped from 10 to two. Positive regression in that area is likely, and the offense could be more dynamic overall under new coordinator Ryan Grubb, who inherits one of the best WR trios in the league. Better health on the offensive line would help everyone, after last year's team had nine blockers top 200 snaps thanks to revolving doors at right tackle and right guard. A bounce back in rushing yardage (366 vs. 155) would go a long way for Smith's fantasy production too.

Drawing rave reviews at OTAs
Smith has been the subject of extensive praise from both offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers for his performance over the first two weeks of OTAs, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Meyers, who's expected to serve as one of Smith's top targets this coming season, praised Smith for his stability both on and off the field, comparing him in that regard to surefire Hall of Famer Tom Brady, who Meyers played with in New England. Meanwhile, Kelly, who, like Smith, is in his first year with the Raiders, has called Smith's experience playing under multiple offensive coordinators a "blessing" and revealed the veteran signal-caller calls him every day after practice to discuss the day's session.
