Safonov had seven goals, 22 points and 22 PIM across 51 regular-season KHL outings in 2024-25. The Blackhawks control his NHL rights after selecting him with the No. 172 overall pick in the 2021 Draft, but he'll spend at least one more season out of Chicago's system.

ANALYSIS
Safonov has 17 points over 40 appearances with Ak Bars this season, though he has also dealt with an undisclosed injury. He has yet to display a reliable scoring level in his native Russia, so the 2021 sixth-round pick is unlikely to make a significant impact once he comes to North America. The 23-year-old will likely need to spend some time with AHL Rockford once he signs his entry-level contract.
