Del Castillo (shoulder) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, serving as a designated hitter while going 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
ANALYSIS
Del Castillo is finally ready to play in games again after being sidelined since late in the spring with a right shoulder strain. The 25-year-old earned a spot on the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster last season and received a cup of coffee in the majors toward the end of 2024, batting .313 with four home runs in 25 games. Del Castillo could still use further refinement behind the plate, but his bat already looks to be major-league ready. Once activated from Triple-A Reno's injured list, Del Castillo is expected to handle an everyday role at catcher.
