2025 Fantasy Outlook
"Lukes hits nukes" is a marketing campaign waiting to happen. Unfortunately, the skill set is not there, as there is not much pop in his bat, and given that he is now 30 years old, it is unlikely anything changes moving forward. Lukes has the skills to play all three outfield spots and has made a name for himself in Triple-A as a high-contact hitter with good plate discipline, but that skill set has not translated into any major league regular playing time. Lukes stands a good chance of making the roster out of camp should Daulton Varsho's recovery from shoulder surgery take longer than expected, but there simply is not much here to get excited about unless you are in a deep AL Only OBP league looking for bench depth. Read Past Outlooks

Taking seat Sunday
Lukes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Though he'll hit the bench against southpaw JP Sears, Lukes should continue to have a clear path to playing time after Daulton Varsho (hamstring) joined Anthony Santander (shoulder) on the injured list Sunday. Lukes has been seeing most of his playing time in the outfield corners of late, but manager John Schneider suggested that he could end up filling the strong side of a platoon in center field with Myles Straw while Varsho is on the shelf, per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.

Recent RotoWire Articles Featuring Nathan Lukes See More

Catch up on all the latest lineup moves in the American League, including the return of Mike Trout, who's climbing his way back up the lineup.

While elite prospect promotions and big-name injury returns lay ahead later this summer, players like the Minnesota Twins' Matt Wallner can provide a boost to fantasy rosters in the meantime.

Injuries create opportunities, and Boston Red Sox top prospect Marcelo Mayer is one of a number of players joining the American League talent pool this week looking to take advantage.
Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Lukes made his major league debut in 2023, slashing .192/.290./.308 across 31 plate appearances with the Blue Jays. Lukes did impress in his age 28 season at Triple-A across 222 plate appearances hitting .366/.423/.530 with five home runs and three stolen bases. Entering his age 29 season, the corner outfielder is likely destined for a return to Triple-A in 2024 after the signings of Kevin Kiermaier and Isiah Kiner-Falefa pushed him further down the depth chart. If Lukes does make a return to the majors in the new campaign it'll likely be as a depth option off the bench.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Set to join big club?
Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports that Lukes is slated to travel to Washington to join up with the Blue Jays on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Lukes did not make the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster despite going 18-for-40 with four doubles, one triple and two steals in spring training. He's played in 20 games with Triple-A Buffalo this season, slashing .284/.348/.432 with 13 runs, three home runs and 13 RBI over 89 plate appearances. Lukes would give Toronto a left-handed bat who can cover the entire outfield, which could be needed if Kevin Kiermaier remains on the shelf past his 10-day IL window due to left hip flexor inflammation.
