2025 Fantasy Outlook
Cannon's rookie season qualified as one of the few success stories for the woeful White Sox in 2024. Highlights for the right-hander included falling one out shy of a shutout against the Astros in a June start and going at least six innings in 11 of his final 18 outings. A 17.7 percent strikeout was underwhelming but expected for a guy who had just a 20.4 percent strikeout rate in the minors. He also had just a 38.1 percent ground ball rate with the White Sox after specializing in that area in the minors. Cannon has displayed good control dating back to his college days at Georgia and that continued with the White Sox as he sported a 7.7 percent walk rate over 124.1 frames. While the 24-year-old has the look of someone who could be a back-end rotation starter for a while, the lack of bat-missing ability and horrible team context makes Cannon pretty unappealing in fantasy. Goes on IL with back injury
The White Sox placed Cannon on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a lower-back strain.
ANALYSIS
Cannon attempted to pitch through the injury Monday against the Tigers but didn't fare well, allowing five runs over just three innings. He'll be eligible to return June 18, but it's unclear at this point whether he will be ready to go by that date.

Ryan Pohle dives into team stacks and pitchers for Monday's MLB slate, featuring Detroit's Jack Flaherty in a favorable matchup against the White Sox.

Monday's top MLB DFS plays on DraftKings include Riley Greene as one of a number of Detroit Tigers stacking options against the Chicago White Sox.

While elite prospect promotions and big-name injury returns lay ahead later this summer, players like the Minnesota Twins' Matt Wallner can provide a boost to fantasy rosters in the meantime.

It'll be important to select the right pitchers for the upcoming week with June promising increased offense.
2024 Fantasy Outlook
A groundball specialist, Cannon lacks a plus pitch, but his sinker/slider combination is designed to generate weak contact. The 6-foot-6 righty also mixes in a 90-mph cutter, low-80s curveball and a changeup. He posted a 5.77 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 11 starts at Double-A last year, but he was a bit unlucky (56.2 LOB%, .346 BABIP). Cannon had much more success in his first two starts of 2024 at Triple-A, maintaining a groundball rate north of 50 percent while striking out a career-best 25.6 percent of batters, albeit with an 11.6 percent walk rate. The White Sox will add Cannon to the rotation earlier than expected in mid-April, and keeping the ball on the ground will be his ticket to sticking around.
