2025 Fantasy Outlook
Barger was one of the better prospects in the Toronto organization who finally earned his promotion to big club as Bo Bichette's body began failing him. Barger had done well hitting in the upper levels, especially in Triple-A where the ABS system certainly helps hitters better figure out the strike zone. Barger has been particularly adept at earning those Triple-A walks and making good contact, but struggled in both areas in his rookie season, as opposing pitchers spent the season overpowering him. Fastballs were problematic for Barger (.212 BA), and cheating on them left him particularly prone to change-ups (.146 BA.) His swing-and-miss was over 25percent against all pitch classification, and he struck out in 50 percent of his plate appearances against fellow lefties. Barger will need to hit his way onto the club, as there are several players with better bats, and Clement is out of options, giving Barger a leg up. It would not be surprising in the least to see Barger back in Buffalo while he waits for a call from the Jays to cover for injuries throughout the season. Read Past Outlooks

Sitting versus southpaw
Barger is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
The left-handed-hitting Barger was in the lineup each of the last three times the Blue Jays faced a lefty, but he'll grab a seat Thursday as they go up against southpaw Jesus Luzardo. Ernie Clement will start at third base and George Springer will play right field while Barger exits the lineup.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Barger, who broke out in 2022, transitioned from shortstop to third base, second base and right field while treading water at Triple-A for most of 2023. He missed time early in the season with an elbow issue and hit .255 with a .361 OBP, eight home runs, four steals and a 19.1 percent strikeout rate in 71 games after returning to play in mid-June. The lefty hitter wasn't so bad in 2023 that he couldn't break through this year, but wasn't good enough at Triple-A (92 wRC+) to comfortably project as a big-league regular. Perhaps he will get work at second base against right-handed pitching, or he could get regular work at the hot corner if the likes of Cavan Biggio, Santiago Espinal and Isiah Kiner-Falefa aren't getting it done. Barger turns 25 next offseason, so this is a big year for him to try to break through with the big club. He saw the most time in right field last season, so that's where he will be eligible this year in most formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Set for more run at third base
Barger is expected to see significant playing time at third base moving forward after the Blue Jays demoted Will Wagner on Tuesday, reports Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca.
ANALYSIS
Daulton Varsho's return from a shoulder injury will limit the opportunities in the outfield, which is where Barger has seen all six of his starts early in 2025. The 25-year-old is a third baseman by trade, but Wagner and Ernie Clement split starts there for the first month of the campaign. Clement is the current favorite for playing time at the hot corner, but his .533 OPS shouldn't offer much job security. Barger hasn't been much better with a .598 OPS, but he's received far few opportunities with just 24 plate appearances and would likely benefit from more regular chances.
